Company Overview
Our client is an established manufacturing organization with a long history of operating successfully in its market. The company is seeking an experienced finance and accounting leader to take ownership of the day-to-day financial function while partnering closely with ownership and operational leadership. This is a hands-on position within a privately held environment and is best suited for someone who enjoys being close to the business, understanding the numbers at an operational level, and directly influencing financial decisions.

Position Overview
The Director of Finance will oversee the company’s accounting and financial operations, including financial reporting, cash management, banking relationships, budgeting, inventory accounting, tax coordination, and audit support. This is not a traditional corporate position supported by a large finance organization. The successful candidate will be comfortable working directly in the details while also providing ownership with accurate financial information and guidance to support business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day accounting and financial operations
  • Manage cash flow, liquidity, and commercial banking relationships
  • Oversee monthly financial reporting and closing activities
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
  • Manage debt service calculations and reporting requirements
  • Coordinate tax filings, annual audits, and financial compliance
  • Maintain strong financial controls and accurate inventory accounting
  • Partner with sales, purchasing, and operations on costing, pricing, and margin considerations
  • Provide financial guidance surrounding capital investments and business initiatives
  • Improve reporting, processes, and the use of technology across the finance function

Ideal Background

  • Strong hands-on accounting and controllership experience within manufacturing, wholesale, distribution, or a similar operational environment
  • Experience working within a privately held, middle-market organization
  • Strong understanding of cash flow and working capital management
  • Experience managing commercial banking relationships and lines of credit
  • Solid knowledge of inventory, costing, financial reporting, and audit processes
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of the finance function
  • Experience with Sage or similar accounting/ERP systems preferred
  • CPA is not required
  • Practical, collaborative leadership style with a high degree of integrity
