Current Opening
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Denver, Colorado
Company Overview:
Our client is an industry-leading window and door manufacturer at the forefront of the high-performance building industry, dedicated to dramatically decarbonizing the built environment’s climate impact. With current revenues around $30 million, the company is poised for significant growth, aiming to reach $50-$100 million. They boast a strong product-market fit and a mission-driven culture, working with leading architects and builders on Net Zero Energy, Passive House, and LEED programs. This growth is fueled by increasing consumer demand for climate-friendly products and evolving regulatory changes.
Position Overview:
Our client is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic financial leadership and oversee all financial activities during a critical period of rapid growth and transformation. This role is pivotal in driving financial performance, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring robust financial reporting and compliance. The CFO will be instrumental in migrating from QuickBooks to Microsoft Business Central, revamping internal reporting—especially for product line margins—and fostering a productive interface between finance and manufacturing. This position demands a hands-on, strategic leader who can manage cash and liquidity, provide strong managerial costing, and effectively communicate financial insights to the board and shareholders.
Why It’s Open:
The current CFO is transitioning to a part-time role, creating an immediate need for a successor who can address existing limitations in FP&A and data integration while driving the company’s ambitious growth agenda. This is a replacement and growth hire, offering an opportunity to improve financial operations, implement new systems, and provide strategic input that was previously lacking. The ideal candidate will solve immediate problems related to system transition and reporting, ensuring the company can scale effectively without an interim CFO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
- Direct the successful migration of accounting software from QuickBooks Online to Microsoft Business Central.
- Develop and implement enhanced internal reporting, focusing on product line profitability and margins, for the board and leadership team.
- Manage cash flow, liquidity, and asset-based lending (ABL) relationships in a working capital-heavy business.
- Establish and maintain strong cost accounting practices and integrate financial data with manufacturing operations to drive efficiency and margin improvement.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to all external stakeholders, including investors, analysts, and creditors.
- Oversee payroll administration, benefits architecture, and manage relationships with professional services like insurance brokers, 401k administrators, and CPA firms.
- Provide economic forecasting and modeling to support strategic decision-making and future success.
- Manage the financial aspects and relationship with the Joint Venture facility in Pennsylvania with Corning.
- Mentor and lead the finance team (currently 3 people), ensuring a smooth transition and continuous development.
Ideal Candidate:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field; CFA or CPA preferred.
- 8-10 years of progressive experience in financial management roles, with significant experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally the window industry.
- Demonstrated expertise in managerial/cost accounting, inventory management, and working capital management.
- Experience with ABL reporting and forecasting is essential.
- Proven ability to lead financial software implementations, particularly with systems like Microsoft Business Central.
- Strong communication skills with the gravitas to challenge assumptions and communicate complex financial information clearly to diverse audiences, including the board and shareholders.
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach, capable of driving operational improvements through financial insights.
- Collaborative mindset, able to build productive relationships between finance and manufacturing.
- Must be based in Colorado and willing to work on-site 5 days a week in Louisville, CO.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base salary range: $175,000-$200,000
- Bonus target: 50-60%, tied to revenue, EBITDA, and personal objectives.
- Equity option: 1% with a 4-year vesting schedule.
